Meet Jonne Tanninen, one of our Front-end Developers and our most recent recruits. Jonne shares his experiences working at Grundium.

Hi Jonne! Tell us a bit about yourself.

I'm Jonne Tanninen, 34 years old, originally from Kuopio. I enjoy a wide range of sports and outdoor activities. I've been living in Pirkanmaa for 14 years, and I've been working at Grundium for about 8 months now.

Grundium Frontend developer Jonne Tanninen

What path did you take to become a Frontend developer?

It's been an unconventional journey. I got here somewhat by accident, through experiences in construction technology knowledge management, working at a meat counter, and working in the import business. I haven't held the official title of frontend developer before, but I've worked as a full-stack developer with a strong focus on frontend.

What aspects of Grundium stood out to you when you were deciding to join?

The product and industry are both fascinating. Grundium felt like a refreshing blend of tradition and modernity. The modern vibe came through the visual branding, the brand-new headquarters, and the working culture I learned about during the interview process. Plus, the good benefits and the convenient location in Hervanta definitely helped with the decision.

How has your onboarding experience been, and how have your colleagues been?

Overall, the onboarding process was straightforward and well-structured. Nothing felt unnecessary; everything was purposeful and helpful. In addition, the support from my colleagues has been excellent. The team has been great, and I've received support from other teams as well.

What sets Grundium apart from other places where you've worked?

It's a mix of the best parts of both small and large companies. There are processes and guidelines for just about everything, but they aren't rigidly enforced. It's not overly bureaucratic, and it genuinely feels like you can make a difference through your own actions.

How do you see the development opportunities for a senior front-end developer at Grundium?

Time will tell, but there seem to be plenty of challenging projects to tackle. I haven't had a chance to explore it fully yet, but there may be opportunities for further training or education down the line.

How do you manage work-life balance at Grundium?

It's really up to you. Personally, I've gotten better at it each year. Spending time outdoors, like freezing in wet clothes in the forest, provides a refreshing contrast to work.

What advice would you give to someone just starting at Grundium?

Get to know people outside of your own team. The company has many functions that all contribute to the same goals. Knowing your colleagues lowers the threshold for asking questions and helps you better understand how your work fits into the bigger picture.

What aspects of Grundium's future are you most excited about?

I'm still getting started, but I feel like we're working on meaningful projects and a solid product. It's rewarding to see the impact of your own contributions and to be part of the company's development.

Thank you, Jonne!
